On Tuesday Sept 3, school started at CBU and for the first time ever, we had official architecture students, faculty and classes. It was an exciting day for all of us who have been involved in building this program for the last 2 years. Unfortunately, I was neck deep in accreditation submissions (gotta do those) and really didn’t have the opportunity to pay attention to what was going on. Then, on Sept 17, i walked into the room where we were having our first ever student meeting of architecture majors. There were 3 early arrivers sitting there when I walked in, but by the time we got started, the room was completely full of students. So as I started talking to the 27 majors, 2 other faculty members, and of course, Karen, it suddenly hit me that this thing was finally real. I’ve been waiting for that day for a long time. And, as we went around the room and everybody introduced themselves and several people talked about how they’ve wanted to be architects all their lives (well, since they were 3 anyway), it also hit me how important this whole thing is to people other than me. There are people who have been waiting for this day a lot longer than I have – and its going to impact the entire rest of their lives. Its a huge responsibility, but one for which I feel God has been preparing me for a long time. We’re in this together now, and I promise to do everything in my power to make this program the very best it can be for you. And I expect the same from you.
